iKhaya le themba is a registered non-profit organisation founded in 2003 in Hout Bay near Cape Town. The organisation offers support to families and to orphans and vulnerable children in the informal township of Imizamo Yethu.
Despite South Africa’s historic advances in democracy and development since 1994, widespread poverty and social exclusion, exacerbated by the HIV/AIDS pandemic, have created a reality in which millions of children are in need of support and care.
There are no formal orphanages in Imizamo Yethu as our community feel that it is their job to raise the children and that removing the children from this community will not always be to the best interest of the child.
To respond to this crisis, Ikhaya le themba developed a holistic model of support to Orphans and vulnerable children and their carers. Today we provide Intensive Care Afterschool services to over 105 children and support to more than 30 families and carers.
